From last weeks trip with @life.of.ian ! “I never would have thought a search through primarily Terra firma habitat in Las Piedras could have led to a neonate Bushmaster (Lachesis muta), much less an encounter with a 10’1” Green anaconda (Eunectes murinus) in crystal clear water; yet here we are. An absolute and total success, the likes of which leave even the most seasoned naturalist in a state of overwhelming awe.
This past week we stacked on the lifers, good times, struggle, and perseverance during the first herping-oriented tour on the river. Fortunately the formula that I’ve half-begrudgingly concocted rang far too true: time + effort (to the power of luck) = success
We rappelled ancient trees, floated down a somewhat turbulent yet pristine river, located long-lost machetes, and recoiled at the slime oozing from a very strange fish. Thanks to all the new and old friends alike for escaping the encroaching chaos and ever-present darkness of modern life with me for a bit!
